From the Artist: A Winsome Way is an astral projection of a walk in spring. During the early pandemic, I did not feel safe. Spring & summer are my favorite seasons, but while my anxiety was awful, I was sequestered inside. Instead of enjoying the outdoors, I began painting safe spaces where I could roam free from harm. A Winsome Way is a lovely jaunt through the verdant, abstract landscapes of springtime.
From the Curator: It's simply a fact that this could not be more maximalist fun! Lots of Rhee’s work is fresh and exciting, but this particular piece has me coming back again and again. Rhee’s instinctive sense for color choices is no accident, as exemplified by this thoughtfully composed work. I love the neons, the effect of static movement, and the general “Yes, It’s going to be an amazing day!” feeling!
