Richard Diebenkorn’s figurative work will always remind me of my dear friend Ed and afternoons spent gleefully pouring over art books on his living room floor. I love Diebenkorn’s Abstract works, but his ability to label a shadow or body part with a single swath of color is what caught my attention. His portrait work is like nothing I’d ever seen before, and with this self-portrait I attempted to replicate his incomparable style.
