From the Artist:
When I was a child living with my grandparents, my favorite television show was Alice. It was a show about a new widow who relocates to Arizona following the death of her husband where she finds work as a waitress in Mel’s Diner. The cast was small, and although Alice was the title character, she wasn’t my favorite. Flo was the character that caught my attention with her blue eyeshadow and tagline, “Kiss my grits.” She was likably sassy and just a little bit gaudy. I’d never met anyone like her, but I hoped to someday. One afternoon I fell asleep while watching Alice and when my grandmother woke me up, I was sweeping the floor with a broom. She asked me what I was doing and I told her, “Working at Mel’s Diner.” After working for over half of my life as a waitress, I find the dream prescient and it gives me the impression that I knew my future in advance. Deep down inside I understood that Alice was a show that I would eventually star in.
